Blackwoods Campground in Acadia National Park

Click map to download

Blackwoods Campground is located right inside Acadia National Park – the only national park in the Northeastern United States. Its camping season runs from May to mid-October, with reservations opening six months in advance.

This is one of those campgrounds where having a delivered RV ready and waiting for you makes so much more sense than having to navigate the windy roads of Maine with a long RV yourself.

Amenities Most of Blackwood’s sites are for tents, large and small, however, they do have sites suitable for RVs. There are no showers in Blackwoods, but there are free showers just a half-mile away.

There are flush toilets, running water, and a dump station.

Picnic tables and fire rings are provided.

Island Explorer shuttle buses, which are free, will pick you up from Bar Harbor-Hancock Regional Airport if you don’t want to rent a car for your stay. And there’s really no need since these free busses also take you to the nearby local communities if desired. Shuttle service is from late June to mid-October.

Blackwoods Campground is nestled in the woods, within a 10-mile walk to the ocean. There’s biking, canoeing and kayaking, and narrated boat cruises. Visit the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse if you’re a lighthouse fan.
